Luis Suarez: Uruguay star joins Gremio after leaving Nacional

Suarez returns to South America after spell in Europe

Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez has joined Brazilian club Gremio after leaving Nacional, the club announced on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old, who has scored 68 goals in 134 appearances for his country, has signed a two-year contract with Gremio.

Suarez had been linked with a move to several clubs in Europe, including Aston Villa and Fenerbahce.

However, he has opted to return to South America, where he began his career with Nacional in 2005.

Suarez is one of the most decorated players in Uruguayan history, having won the Copa America in 2011 and the Copa Libertadores in 2015.

He has also won league titles in the Netherlands, England and Spain, and was the Premier League's top scorer in the 2013-14 season.

Suarez is expected to make his debut for Gremio in the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A on 17 January.
