Bruins Goaltender Jeremy Swayman Shines
The Boston Bruins have taken a 1-0 lead in their Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Florida Panthers after defeating them 4-1 in Game 1 on Tuesday night. Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 38 saves in the victory.
The Bruins got off to a fast start, scoring two goals in the first period. Brad Marchand opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 4:25, and David Pastrnak doubled the lead with a goal at 12:32.
The Panthers cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Aleksander Barkov at 16:14, but the Bruins regained their two-goal lead on a goal by Charlie McAvoy at 19:12.
The Bruins added an empty-net goal by Craig Smith with 1:07 remaining to seal the win.
Swayman was outstanding in goal for the Bruins, stopping 38 of the 39 shots he faced. He was particularly strong in the second period, when the Panthers had several good scoring chances.
The Bruins will look to take a 2-0 lead in the series when they host the Panthers in Game 2 on Thursday night.
